With Small Business Saturday coming up on November 30, we wanted to find a way to celebrate the exciting and rapidly growing Kansas City small business community. At Strategic Capital, each member of our team has a passion for helping and supporting entrepreneurs and we wanted to curate a list of our favorite local small businesses that we follow.

The Roasterie

What Separates The Roasterie from the Crowd?: The Roasterie uses an air-roasting method rather than the more traditional drum-roasting method, to ensure superior consistency and a tastier, smoother cup of coffee.

J. Rieger & Co

Description: The original J. Rieger & Co was the largest mail-order whiskey house in the United States prior to the advent of federal prohibition in 1920, which eventually forced the company to shut down. Fast-forward to 2010 when bartender and entrepreneur, Ryan Maybee opened up a restaurant, The Rieger, to bring the historic name back to the forefront. At opening night, the only living “Rieger”, Andy Rieger, attended to thank Ryan for honoring his family’s history. During their conversation, Ryan casually suggested that they work together to bring back the distillery – and Andy agreed. In October 2014, Andy and Ryan successfully relaunched the brand with its Rieger’s Kansas City Whiskey.

What Separates J. Reiger & Co from the Crowd?: J. Rieger & Co’s Kansas City Whiskey was named in the Top 4 for International Best New Spirit or Cocktail Ingredient at the 2015 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.
